Amphibious + 🗝️🐌🐰!
I imagine this lil guy is some kind of minor spirit/deity or cryptid. They’re quite skittish and will hide in their shell when nervous or threatened. Their shell is usually too heavy to move, so native plants take hold and grow. Small animals are drawn to them, and will exist harmoniously with their host. Killing one is considered a bad omen and a collapse of the ecosystem is said to follow.
Inspirations: sea bunny, rabbit snail, jackalope, key (object of the emoji), key (adj. “of paramount or crucial importance”; wildlife conservation, etc), etc. Sea bunny was immediately on the mind (cute lil sea slugs) so originally was going to go for more of a oceanic vibe with coral (“key” to the ecosystem) growing off the shell…but then that felt more aquatic than amphibious so I shifted to freshwater, especially after learning about the rabbit snail!
